Glenmore Sands can be found 7km north of Port Edward and about a 30 min drive south of Margate. The resort is on Glenmore Beach and has magnificent sea views from most of our units.
The original Green Dolphin Hotel was constructed in the early 1900’s and was converted to self-catering units around 1983. The area around the reception is still part of this original building. The collection of old photographs and artifacts makes for fascinating browsing .
Our well maintained gardens are home to a colony of Hyrax rock rabbits (Dassies) who are protected in this area as well as the regular visitors - Vervet Monkeys.
We can also boast abundant bird-life with resident Fish Eagles often seen perched on their vantage point high in the branches of the dead trees along the Tongazi River. They are seen most often early in the morning or cloudy days.
Glenmore Sands is situated on the renowned “Wild Coast” with its many shipwrecks, interested visitors can collect pieces of porcelain or trader beads from these vessels which are still washed up onto the shore. Of course most often after storms and high seas. We have a framed example of the porcelain in our foyer.
Glenmore Sands is a wonderful place to visit throughout the year. In the hot summer months we have our swimming pool with children’s pool and the netted beach to cool down. During the winter months, particularly from May to October, the Bottle Nose and Common Dolphins can be seen following the annual migration northwards of the sardines. The Hump Back and Southern Right Whales come past for a much longer period as they head north early in the cooler months to the warm waters and around November they travel south again with their calves returning back to the cold southern waters.
We also have a games room with entertainment for young and old with tv games, pool table and table tennis etc. In the garden near to the swimming pool is a jungle gym for the smaller children.
Glenmore beach with its flat sands and rocky outcrops always proves to be a good for rod and dive fishing.
We pay great attention to security and have overnight watchmen and 16 CCTV cameras around the Resort to ensure our guests are secure.
The resort is small with only 24 units and all here do our best to make our guests welcome and feel at home.
